Yay... Friday!

So... even though I don't have the typical 9-5 (and really why do they say this - who really ever works from 9-5??) office job anymore I still get equally excited for the weekends! I work hard during the week - I still even set my alarm each night to ensure I don't waste my day away sleeping in. I find that I am much more productive during the day if I have a routine set in place.

Today I was sort of a prisoner of the house. We ordered a couch about a month ago and it was delivered today - yay! However, that meant I had to wait around for the delivery... which of course they gave me a three hour window and shocker - they were late. Oh well - the couch is in and I am happy. I attached a few pics of the new sectional... wahoooo!

So needless to say I didn't get too much done today with regards to Moosette. I spent most the day doing a bit of spring cleaning... starting fresh with the new couch. I think that is our plan for the weekend as well - finishing up little projects around the house that have been lingering over our heads for quite some time.

I have some new ideas brewing in my head; unfortunately, I didn't get a chance to go to the fabric store today... hopefully they turn out as cute as I think they will - Check back Monday!

Have a great weekend!

Productive Thursday!

The salon in Solana Beach, Vanity, where I sold some of my hair accessories today... Check them out if you are on 101

One of the stylists, Courtney, with the clip that she purchased

Thank you to everyone for the words of encouragement with regards to my new blog :-) It makes it so much more fun when I know there may be a couple of peeps tuning in!

Today was a productive day. I was invited in to showcase my creations at a salon in Solana Beach, Vanity. They don't have a website or I would link you to them. If you don't have a salon or stylist that you are fully committed to I suggest you check it out - everyone that works there is extremely talented. I have been getting my hair done here by Amber since they opened... the place is amazing! You totally feel at home right when you walk through the beautifully hand-crafted doors. The place is decorated with an eclectic-Asian inspired theme. They always have coffee house tunes playing as background noise just below the chattering of people and blow-dryers. The best part about the place is probably the fact that they serve vino and beer ;-) I think this is the part that sold my boyfriend, Dylan, on it!

Anyways... I got a very positive response with my head bands and clips. It is always so nerve racking to me to show people my accessories for the first time... I know I should be more confident but it is always difficult when you handmake an item - you obviously put thought and effort into each thing so you want everyone to like them as much as you do. The salon purchased a few of each... and even a couple of the stylists bought a couple things as well as a client that was in getting her hair done! So I obviously left the salon with a good feeling inside...

I also gained a few more contacts to boutiques in the San Diego area thanks to my good friend, Krystal! Hopefully those will unfold into sales as well... I will keep you posted!

Breaking Ground!

So... where do I begin?? This is my first experience with the world of blogging... I don't even have a facebook page! I know, I know... many of my friends ask on a daily basis for me to join and soon I may have to put aside my stubbornness and join for the sake of free advertisement for my new brand Moosette!

Let me catch you up to speed. Upon graduating from college I decided it was time to decide what it was I wanted to do for the rest of my life - first off isn't that pretty much the scariest thing to ponder?? It seems so permanent! Anyways... I searched and searched job postings and then it hit me - Human Resources! It seemed like the perfect fit to utilize my people skills and Sociology degree. Within the field of HR there seemed to be a ton of room for advancement, it was a universal position meaning they have an HR department in every company and the idea that had me most excited was the fact that I would have the latest and greatest gossip about each employee in the company... how fun is that?? Well, it is five years later and I have been with three different companies in the meantime and I am realizing the corporate world may not be my calling. I know that work is supposed to be 'work' and not play, but I guess I am just the type of person that wants it all! In my eyes my boyfriend, Dylan, has everything that anyone could ever want in a career. He is not only amazing at what he does - he also LOVES it - imagine that. So I guess you can say he is a bit of my inspiration through this experience. I am striving to have what he has... success and passion with something that I love to do.

I have been creating hair accessories for my friends and friend's daughters for the past year and have always gotten a positive response. One day I woke up and realized - hey maybe I can do this for real... meaning maybe, just maybe I can turn this into a profitable career. So that is where I am now. I am in the process of figuring out the odds and ends of starting up my own brand from nothing.

I have started small in the past couple of months - but now it is time to get serious -unfortunately the bills don't get paid on good faith! I spent a majority of November 2009 creating new inventory. I have a few differing collections of head bands and hair clips. Let me tell you - this is my favorite part!!! I could sit up in my office for hours listening to music and being creative! This is something I never even knew I had in me! The way I see it - I pretty much get to design the 'cherry' that goes on top of some one's outfit!

In the month of December 2009 I was fortunate enough to be apart of a Holiday Boutique out of some one's house, which was a fun experience not only because it was my first opportunity to see what the rest of Encinitas thinks about my designs but I got to figure out a creative way to display my items. Also, in the month of December I was introduced to the interesting world of Los Angeles' Garment District! Me and a couple of friends ventured into the streets of fashion to find deals and steals for my materials. It is a fun place to wander the day away if you ever have free time. Now it is January 2010 and it is time to get SERIOUS! I am ready to make the brand known! I have created an etsy site; however, I haven't had the opportunity to post any pics yet due to an electronic setback (my camera decided to stop working at the worst possible time!). Stay tuned - I will post the address as soon as I have product posted. I have also been in contact with a couple of buyers at a local salon as well as a boutique/salon in downtown San Diego. I am hoping to get my product in a number of places by the end of February! My ultimate dream would be to have my accessories in my all-time favorite stores Anthropologie and Henri Bendel in NYC - I can dream can't I :-) I have also leaped into the beginning stages of creating a company website and logo...

Well you have been pretty much caught up to speed on the beginnings of Moosette. My goal is to write each afternoon with my day to day activities... hope I haven't bored yall too much too early on!
