Not much on the radar this weekend... Tonight we are hanging with one of the boy toys besties (can you use that term for boys??) from college... he is always a barrel of laughs. Not much going on tomorrow... hopefully going to get a long run in the morning (having the wedding seven months away is a real motivator!) and we are hoping to catch up with the boy toy's brother and his fam. So I guess our weekend is chalking up to a weekend filled with fun peeps!

Out with the old in with the 70's! I am a little tardy for this party on posting about the big 70's trend that is in full effect for spring and summer... but let's just call it fashionably late... shall we?? Last summer all of the buzz was geared towards 60's Mad Men inspiration - well this year it is easy, breezy boho looks and disco fever nights...

I am truly am a lover of bohemian fashion; however, it really isn't for me... (Carrie from one of my fav blogs pulls this look off every time... jealous much!) I can get away with maxi dresses and can not wait to sport a maxi skirt - but the wide leg pants and calf length skirts (short legs here people!) just aren't my friends... so this is my spin 70's fashion... if there is one thing to always remember when it comes to new trends - they aren't for everyone! Dress for your body type and your personal likes...

One of my favorite ways to cover up on chilly nights is to throw on a blazer... I am oh so happy that this trend isn't going anywhere this spring. A classic blazer thrown over dress or skirt equals pretty much perfection in my book!

Oh and a little hint - my favorite go-to black blazer is actually just an old Calvin Klein suit jacket (that I hadn't worn in years) - I rolled up the sleeves a couple of times and voila had my new fav staple piece without even opening my wallet!

So... I have officially been a very bad blogger lately. After we got back from NYC and I reveled in the idea of being a bride I jumped full force into wedding planning (we decided on an October wedding of this year). While the wedding has somehow already taken over all of my thoughts I have neglected my happy place... this blog and all of my fav daily reads! That stops here!

One of my favorite things about spring is retiring my boring black and tan handbags for a little pop of color every once in a while. I mean who doesn't enjoy throwing a bright and unexpected party over their shoulder?? I for one am ready to bring on the color!

I had the most ahhhhmazing time in NYC! I don't even know where to begin... we shared yummy dinners with friends... shopped... enjoyed a box suite at the Knicks vs Lakers game... strolled through a couple museums... walks in Central Park - oh and the best part... GOT ENGAGED!

It was the most magical proposal that I girl could ever ask for... walking in Central Park... the big YES... followed by celebratory cocktails at The Plaza (seriously??)... and then meeting up with friends for a delish dinner and cocktails into the night with friends and my new fiance!

I promise not to turn this little blog of mine into a wedding blog... but I just had to share the big news... I cant stop looking down at my left hand to admire my beautifully, amazing ring! I promise normal posts will resume tomorrow!

Red Eye Comfort...

The boy toy and I are leaving on a jet plane tonight... destination = The Big Apple! We love taking the red eye when traveling back east as we don't have to give up any of our precious vacay minutes for travel time. I will be sporting an outfit very similar to this look... comfort is key to red eye travels. I always, always travel with a large, comfy scarf as it doubles as a blanket for me on the plane. I am taking the train up to the boy toys work this evening and then off we go!

Some essentials that will definitely be making it in my suitcase...

We had a very eventful weekend filled with lots and lots of fun! Well... just because the weekend is over doesn't mean our fun has come to an end! In just two short days me and the boy toy will be kissing this fabulous warm weather behind for the slush filled streets of NYC! We booked our trip about two weeks ago to visit a couple of my besties from high school and their lovers. We are staying at my aunt's fabulous Upper East Side apartment - no one lives there as they purchased a couple years ago for trips such as this!

We have all sorts of fun things planned - fun dinners with friends, museums and of course shopping! Don't worry that I have already mapped out the fabulous vintage shops I want to hit up - my friends always laugh because I always show up with my excel spreadsheet (obvi copies for everyone) in hand ready to shop!

Now on to the important things... what to pack?? I have been enjoying me some summer like conditions here in San Diego and have totally forgotten how to dress for winter!

I am looking forward to a weekend filled with amingos and amigas! To kick the weekend off the boy toy is home early and we are going to check out some outdoor furniture and fire pit (we had our backyard redone in the winter - the grass town out and stone pavers laid). And tonight is date night... excited for some yummy food and a glass or two of vino! Saturday the boy toy is going golfing with my brother and friends and us girls are going to meet up with them after at a brewery nearby. And the grand finale of the weekend will be our BBQ during the big game! Excited to have our friends over and cheers in the new backyard... and it doesn't hurt that it is an excuse to overindulge in all of the finger foods!

H&M released information today regarding their new line to hit stores April 14th - Conscious Collection - just like the name states this line of clothing for men and women is made from environmentally adapted materials including organic cotton, Tencel and recycled polyester. The collection is a follow-up of the ever so popular Garden Collection that debuted last year. This sustainable collection is comprised of varying shades of white - in my opinion what more could you ask for in a spring collection?? I love the simplicity yet romantic feel of each piece...

DIY... Dollar Store Rope Necklace!

I think it is safe to say that the whole blogging world remembers Dollar Store Crafts diy post last December that involved a couple jump ropes, copper (we will call them rose gold) tubes, caps and magnets. Well I went straight out to the Dollar Tree and picked up my materials but never got around to finishing the project since I had so much going on around the holidays... well I decided those jump ropes had been storing dust long enough and decided today was the day for my nautical necklace to be born...

Materials... two jump ropes (I chose a vibrant purple which the pic doesn't do it justice) from Dollar Tree (obvi $1 each), two copper tubes and caps (65 cents each at Home Depot), two magnets (a pack of 10 for $1.90 at Home Depot), scissors, lighter and hot glue gun

For the tutorial on how to tie a lanyard knot go here... it took me a couple times to figure it out... I was a little slow today... but Samantha has a video posted on the left hand side of the page that takes you step by step...
The chain is completed... I just went until I got to the end of my shorter ropes

I am ready for spring and all of the lovely nautical stripes!

Now that I have the hang of the knots... I will be creating many more rope necklaces for my friends to sport in the spring!

** I will probably use jewelry findings on my next rope necklace because the necklace is a bit too heavy to be held by two little magnets. It does connect... but doesn't feel very secure...

DIY... From the Hardware Store!

A few weekends ago the boy toy and I were at Home Depot picking up a few things for some diys around the house. When I was walking around I realized what a mecca that place was for projects for my own diys! I went back the next day (because lets be honest the boy toy does not have the patience to wait for me while I shop... even if it is in Home Depot!). I seriously picked out about 50+ washers, nuts and copper tubes for under $8 - seriously you can get these things for just pennies - way cheaper than materials at a bead or craft store and in my opinion just as cute!

I wasn't exactly sure what I felt like making... I spray painted about half of my materials gold, because we all know I am obsessed with ghetto gold! I left them in the garage for about a week and forgot about them until I came across this fabulous post on I Spy DIY - seriously was she reading my mind??

Materials - metallic spray paint in gold, washers, satin ribbon (wasn't sure if I was going to use lace), scissors and a lighter

Spray painting the washers and nuts a beautiful ghetto gold!
The tutorial via The Small Object is super simple to follow along with... promise!

I decided to switch it up and mix metals, gold and and silver...

Finished product! I tied the ends of the ribbon and used the lighter to singe the edges to keep them from fraying. I didn't go for the choker like the original tutorial as I wanted the necklace to drape with the excess ribbon...

Me likey! Especially the gold and silver combo! I will probably try it next with the black lace to add a bit more glitz and glam!

I am definitely going to make the rope necklace with the remaining bolts that I spray painted gold!

$88 - OBSESSED!

During my weekend of relaxation I made a trip to Anthropologie (living less than 5 min away is never a good thing) and was in total swoon-ville over all the fabulous stripes! There was seriously too much to choose from... I ended up walking away empty handed (except for this belt) as I needed time to soak in all of the nautical goodness... and hoping by the time I make some decisions they will have been moved to the sale room (don't you just love the sale room that almost never disappoints)!

My plans for this weekend consist of no plans at all - and I couldn't be happier! The boy toy is out of town and it is the first weekend since before the holidays that I have absolutely nothing on the agenda! I plan to sleep in, enjoy long runs in the sunshine, give myself a much needed mani/pedi, lose myself in my stack of magazines, hit up a famer's market for fresh cut flowers, catch up with friends, enjoy a glass or two of vino... overall just relax and enjoy!

Seriously what would spring be without the re-emergence of the beloved nautical trend?? Well thank heavens this isn't the year we will have to find out. Like most years in the past the nautical trend is going to be in full force once again (I mean seriously what is better than navy and stripes). One of my favorite ways to show my nautical pride is with accessories and I for one am always down for a rope necklace why not spice it up a bit and add some knotted gold instead?? It's Been One Year!

Today is my blogoversary! It has been one year since my very first post and I guess my first step into the world that I didn't even know existed - the blogosphere! I seriously had no idea that there were so many creative and talented people out there willing to share their daily thoughts for the world to see. I first started this blog for a creative outlet and sort of a journal for the many things that inspire me throughout the year. I never expected to meet such fabulous peeps and continue to be inspired everyday by others posts. Cant wait for another year in the world of blogging!

With the return of Gossip Girl this week came the return of my obsession with chunky, statement baubles! Seriously I don't even notice the story lines anymore... it is all about their fabulous over the top goodness that hang from their necks! Attention collaboration lovers... H&M has released their latest collab set to hit stores April 20th - the crafted wooden soles of Swedish Hasbeens. They are likely to hit the spot for all of you bohos out there! The line will consist of three styles with prices ranging from $60-$70... a little high in my eyes for a pair of H&M shoes... but I will have to wait and see the actual quality and comfort.

Spring is just around the corner (or if you live in Southern California... you are already enjoying the sunshine) and there is nothing better than nautical stripes in the springtime! This dress from F21 equals nautical perfection in my book (notice the braided rope belt) - and at $15 - how can you argue?? It comes in three colors... navy (shown), orange and cream - at $15 why not pick up all three??

Also - In my opinion the boring buttons on the sleeve are screaming for a makeover - I am going to switch out the navy buttons for gold.

The friendship bracelet trend is still in full force for the upcoming months... and seriously there cant be an easier diy trend - I mean we have all spent hours perfecting our braided threading at one point or another during our childhood... right?? Well Honestly...WTF put a grown-up spin on this playground classic with inspirations from Aurelie Bidermann... seriously this diy project is simple enough even the crafting impaired can conquer this one!

I am going to be on the lookout for a similar bracelet and even a necklace (don't you think this would be a fab summer accessory) at Forever 21 (or more appropriately Forever 28!) for a cheaper version...

Just the three of us...

I had a fabulous weekend. I enjoyed a quiet Friday night... and woke up early Saturday morning and ventured up to Orange County to be a wedding dress critique for one of my oldest and dearest friends who is scheduled to get married at the end of October. There wasn't much critiquing going on as every dress looked gorgeous on her... seriously no matter the style she looked like a true bride. The trip was successful as she said 'yes to the dress' - oh and best part after you purchase a wedding dress - they pop a bottle of bubbly to celebrate!

On Sunday we went over to the boy toy's brother's house as his parents were down from Ventura to celebrate a belated birthday for him and his niece Z. I LOVE spending time with the boy toy's nieces... they bring me back to when I was their age... it is the perfect excuse to play with dolls or get messy with some sort of arts and crafts. Yesterday afternoon was spent channeling our inner fashionistas - we created different outfits using stencils and colored stationary... These girls are so creative and definitely have a keen fashion sense for their age... it was so neat to see the different patterns and colors they paired together. Seriously would not have wanted to spend my Sunday afternoon any other way :-)

To end the weekend we went out with my family to celebrate the boy toy's 29th year of life... at his favorite Italian restaurant... the evening was spent with delish food, mucho vino and great company.

I have been on hiatus for the past couple of weeks... the boy toy took off took off the past two weeks of work... which meant I found little time to blog/read my favs while he was home :-) We had a fabulous holiday season... it was filled with family, friends, travels, shopping, movies and way too much food and vino... it is time to get back to reality! The boy toy has left for Florida for the next week so I will have plenty of time to catch up on my daily favs and work on checking off a few of my new years resolutions!

I hope that everyone had a fabulous holiday season... and a better 2011!

A New Year = New Resolutions...

With the ringing in of a new year... one always begins to ponder what changes should be made to increase their quality of life... well here are mine for 2011...

Take better care of myself... which includes being more conscious of what I put into my body... exercise more... go to bed earlier... drink more water (obvi this is always on every ones lists - but I really need to make a better effort at taking care of my body)

Step out of my comfort zone in regards to beauty regimen... I have never been much a of beauty buff... my daily skin care routine consists of a shower and cetaphil... I will be turning 29 this year and figure it is well over do for me to begin to preserve my age :-)

Get a library membership and read more... this needs no explanation

Go through my closet after each season and get rid of anything that hasn't been worn and donate to Goodwill... seriously it should be a sin for how many articles of clothing I have hanging that haven't been worn in years...

Find a volunteer position... I have way too much time on my hands to not at least give up an hour or two a week to help others...

Sign up for a sewing class... this has been on my list for years... I think this is the year to finally cross it off...

Cross off the many diy home improvement projects around the house... we have almost been in our home for three years (come April) and there is a massive list of projects that I have had in mind and have never followed through... well this is the year!

I have my work cut out for me in 2011 - but I think it is safe to say that they are ALL attainable! Here's to a productive 2011!

I know the holidays typically bring out the Grinch in some... the traffic is worthy of causing even the most patient to go insane in the membrane... the malls lack personal space and breathing room... the feeling that money is flying out of your wallet faster than you can say Christmas...

With that said - I love it ALL! It is my most favorite time of year. I love the time that we are able to spend with our family and friends that we don't get to see often throughout the year... love the twinkling of lights when driving through the streets... don't even get me started on the smell of the Christmas tree - LOVE... the coziness the Christmas decor brings to our home... over-indulging in EVERYTHING (and not even worrying about the consequences until December 26th... and my most favorite thing is seeing the excitement on some one's face while opening a gift that you put so much effort into finding...

Merry Christmas!

We had a fabulous time at the Hotel Del Coronado this past weekend... although a little wet - it didn't put any dampers on our fun ;-) The rain didn't actually get super heavy until yesterday when we were leaving.

We spent the evenings enjoying good vino and delish eats... strolls through the streets during the days and even got our ice skate on! Oh boy was that an experience! It had been raining before so there were puddles on the rink which seemed to make it a little more difficult... or at least that is our story and we are sticking to it!

The forecast calls for rain all weekend... me and the boy toy are escaping our cold home to a much warmer place... the Hotel Del! We are taking a mini vacation and staying down in Coronado for a few days. Our original plan was to travel to NYC and then San Fran... but plans kept getting altered due to the boy's work - so we decided to save the city fun for another time and travel 30 min south for a little bit of holiday cheer... and warm hotel rooms! The Hotel Del is a sight to see around Christmas time!

We were hoping for weather like last weekend... so we could enjoy bike rides and strolls in the sand... but now it is looking like time will be spent cuddled up next to fireplaces with vino in hand... fine by me!

The view of the beautiful weather yesterday - 85 degrees in December!

Although I had a fabulous weekend... spent with family and friends - I seem to be going through a bit of bad luck... hoping that today is the turn around point!

It all started Friday night... the boy toy and I went out to get our tree (I know a bit late... but he has been out of town). We got our tree home... excited to decorate... vino in hand and Christmas tunes in the background. Checked tree trimming off our list and went to bed. At about 11:45pm (don't judge that we were already in bed before midnight on a Friday night!) I heard a glass break downstairs... I got out of bed thinking it was an ornament from the tree... to my surprise - the entire tree had fallen over!!! Glass was everywhere (all of our ornaments are glass - I now realize isn't the smartest move considering we have wood floors)... the tree stand fell right over with it... so needless to say the downstairs was flooded! Not exactly how we wanted to spend the wee hours of the night... after about 45min we had it semi-cleaned up and salvaged what we could of the ornaments and went back to bed...

Saturday was a great day... we experienced summer like weather... around 85 degrees at the beaches... we spent the evening with D's parents as his niece was in a school play, School House Rock - Ammmmazing by the way - still in awe over the kids! On our way home we decided we weren't ready to call it a night so we made a very spontaneous decision to go bowling - to our surprise it happened to be Rock 'n' Roll bowl - seriously a great night! However, I did not get into the groove of things until our last game... standard :-)

Which leads me to yesterday... My Mom and I had planned to go to the mall to get some Christmas shopping done... I agreed to help her carry boxes to be shipped... the Postal Annex is in a small, local shopping center. I saw a friend of mine from across the courtyard so I waved and because the boxes were so big I didn't see the cement block in front of me and I tripped and the boxes went flying - sunglasses flew off - I went sliding into home... as if it wasn't humiliating enough - people from all directions came running to our aide - I quickly got up... both legs skinned up and bleeding, threw on my sunglasses for security and scurried off to the post office to try and quickly forget what had just happened - however, my knee are a pretty good reminder that what happened was a reality... one word... mortified!

Hope every one had a smoother past couple of days...

Shopping Bags Galore...

I absolutely fell in love with this idea while catching up on one of my daily favs, Bromeliad! Seriously I thought I was the only one that had this problem. I always hesitate throwing away pretty (and lets be honest - shiny designer) shopping bags... and low and behold there is a whole club out there that has this same problemo!

Obsessed with the idea of crafting up some wall art with lovely used shopping bags; however, I am thinking the boy toy would not be too keen on this idea (sort of like a trophy wall displaying all the money gone to shopping) - hopefully one day I will own my very own walk-in closet to decorate as I please... and you better believe these will be adorning my wall!

Oh how I have missed my dear blog... well actually more accurately - oh how I have missed reading all of my daily favorites! I have been extremely busy the past month with updating my Etsy shop, holiday bazaars and boutique orders. I have so much to fill you all in on!

But I will take it slow :-) For now... check out some of my new items in my Etsy shop! I still have a ton of pieces to add... slow and steady is the name of the game right?!

Civic Duty...

I spent the day at jury duty - for the first time in my life. I have been summoned every year for as long as I can remember but I was either a student or working... so I have always gotten out of it. I literally had no idea what to expect... seriously I even called my Mom this morning to consult on what to wear - I know - I am that ridiculous! But the most experience I had with jury duty was watching Carrie Bradshaw serve her civic duty on SATC... when she encountered the man that would bring a different piece if fruit each day in his briefcase - no ordinary fruit but fruits like a coconut and a mango - so I knew I would be in a treat for the people watching aspect... there were some positive things to come out of jury duty... I caught up on every one's blogs (I luckily brought my laptop) and also got a two hour break in which I got to a chance to catch up with my good friend, KO... so the day wasn't a total loss :-)

So I got home from Puerto Rico just in time to partake in my favorite holiday... Halloween! In my personal opinion there is nothing better than a holiday that requires everyone to dress up... anyone that knows me knows that I love any party with a theme... also I went to school in Santa Barbara which boosts the largest college Halloween festivities in the country - seriously look it up! Anyways getting home just in time for Saturday's festivities meant I didn't leave much time for figuring out a costume... I made a trip down to the thrift shop to see what I could come up with... I am totally against spending $50 on a costume - not to mention that buying a bagged costume at a Halloween store almost automatically guarantees you that you will run into your twin on the street...

So... I decided I would be a flapper... in my 28 years of dressing up... I surprisingly have never been a flapper... grabbed a black slip at the thrift shop for $2 and made my way to the fabric store... quick stop at Michael's for a boa and then came home and got to work - made my finishing touches just in time for my friend's party!

Time Flies When You Are Having Rum...

Back to reality... boo! I had a blast in Puerto Rico - amazing weather... crystal blue water... all the rum a girl could ever dream of! The boyfriend was mostly busy during the days - his company brought the first major surf competition to Puerto Rican waters - so needless to say he was extremely busy, which was fine by me - I spent my days bronzing in the sun... frolicking in the 85 degree water (seriously heaven!) and catching up on all of my magazines and read a book (The Recessionistas - highly recommend).

We landed in San Juan and spent the first half of my trip there. I seriously fell in love with this city! The downtown area, Old San Juan, is amazing. From it's cobblestone streets to the multiple fortresses that still stand dating back many centuries to the impressive governor's mansion - there is so much rich history in such a small radius. The beaches are picturesque... they seriously look like they are straight off a post card!

The second half of my trip we traveled to Aguadilla. This is where the contest is being held. This area is literally a 180 from San Juan. It is located in the north west of the island. In San Juan you could feel the hustle and bustle of the city... Aguadilla was much quieter... actually an understatement - it was sleepy! The water was also polar opposite from the crystal blue, serene waters of San Juan. Aguadilla's coastlines were much more rough.

I enjoyed numerous yummy meals filled with Puerto Rican eats... like plantain chips, mofongo and churrasco!

Overall, it was a fabulous trip and am already looking forward to my next visit!

I'm Leaving on a Jet Plane...

Well not quite yet... we are taking the red eye tonight to Puerto Rico! But I have been scrambling around all morning trying to get packed and the house in order (yep I am that anal - I enjoy coming home to a perfectly clean home). The boyfriend went up to work this morning which meant I had to have my bag packed by 8:30am! Of course I didn't start packing until around 7:30am... which I guess to some an hour sounds like enough time but for me I have a system where I pack WAY too many things... and then gradually take some out; however, I still always seem to have a suitcase tipping the scales. I am going to take the train up to Orange County later this afternoon to meet the boy at work and then we are on our way! Wahhoooo! Fun in the sun here I come!!!

I don't have too much planned for the weekend except for staying nice and cozy indoors while watching college football... The weather is cool and drizzly outside - I am thinking perfect weather for a fire and vino! The boyfriend and I leave for Puerto Rico on Monday (he will be working and I am going along for the ride) - so I am sure we will just be getting ready for our upcoming trip as well as celebrating some birthday love for my brother's girlfriend and my friend, Kimmy :-) Her birthday isn't until next weekend but we will be gone so we are doing some early celebrating - and we all know every girl enjoys their birthday month... not just day :-)

Well Vogue UK is using that idea and launching Fashion's Night In for the etailers! The event will take place November 1st from 5pm-midnight. So I came across this organization today on Rachael Ray and just had to share it! Seriously so inspiring that one individual can have such an impact on a community...

In Southern California we are spoiled rotten when it comes to Farmer's Markets or markets like Henry's where we can purchase delicious, affordable produce from our local farms... I almost forget that this is a luxury and it isn't reality everywhere. Farm to Family was started by a man, Mark Lillly, in Richmond, Virginia. His mission is to bring locally grown produce to rural areas that do not have access to fruits and veggies unless they are from a can. He drives his restored school bus around to different locations and sets up shop. The locals are able to jump on board and browse the bundles of fresh, locally grown and most importantly affordable produce.

Seriously... I love this! I would not be able to live without my fresh produce... I live on fresh veggies! Read more about one man's mission to bring his community together here!

I am not sure if I am the only one out there that just isn't digging the sweat pant trend... in my eyes there is no dressing up a pair of sweat pants - I don't care if you add sequins or a pair of sky high pumps... you are still just sporting the bottom half of your pj's. Don't get me wrong I am the first to throw on a pair of cozies while I am at home... but the keys words are while I am at home! I thought this trend would fade faster but unfortunately the fashion world has proved me wrong...

Shopping Gods Have Answered!

Not sure if I am the last to hear - but a couple of weeks ago J. Crew (one of my favs!) opened their factory store online! Yes - this means you can score some of your favorite styles for half the price! All items found at their factory store or online factory store are made exclusively for the outlets. The only catch to this little piece of heaven is the online store is only available on the weekends (Friday 12am - Sunday midnight)... but for me this still beats driving an hour south to the closest J. Crew Factory store!

Probably my most favorite thing about fall/winter is the roll out of the tights! Now that it is a bit chilly (not for long the weekend forecast calls for 78 degrees in San Diego!) out I think it is the appropriate time to slip into some tights... We have had some crazy weather for the last few days of September! The beginning of the week we had record highs... which I am not complaining considering the sun is hard to come by these days! And this morning I woke up to tropical weather that made me feel like I was in Florida... and to top it off we have had off and on showers accompanied by thunder storms! Heaven!

The boy was out of town for the night... so I had the evening to myself - which I wasn't too upset about as I just received my new InStyle in the mail... and was uber excited to start flipping the 600 glossy pages of goodness! It is the fall fashion special - and I came across a page displaying the new bag trends for the upcoming season - one happened to be chain straps - well it reminded me of my fabulous find at a local consignment store just last week! I found this fantastic vintage beaded bag for only $6!!! I can only imagine the wonderful events this bag accompanied their former owner to... now it is all mine... for again - only $6! I think this may be one of my new favorite accessories for fall... LOVE!

I am back... and alive to tell about it! Dylan and I got back from our first family camping adventure last night. Dylan's Dad came up with a plan about a year ago to take the whole fam on a four day camping trip on Santa Cruz Island - off the coast of California. Please note that this was the first time that many of us had ever camped... so you can imagine our excitement that all of us made it back in one piece :-) We ended up having a blast... despite the lack of running water! It was actually a nice change a pace... living without showers and electricity... not to mention cell service gave us all a chance to appreciate the smaller things in life.

So... everyone knows by now that I am a huge fan of the Target collaborations - favorite designers so far being Anna Sui, Liberty of London and Cynthia Vincent. Well I just got word that the three latest designers... Mulberry, Tucker and John Derian will be holding a 36-hour sale via the invitation only site, Gilt! I am so excited to see the items we all can be expecting at our local Targets! I am especially excited to see the Mulberry bags... so far I have not been all too impressed with the Target collaborations for handbags... I guess those are a bit more difficult to pull off - most have looked 'cheap' to me... Ooh and can NOT wait to get my paws on some of Tucker's feminine blouses and dresses!

The only problem with this sale is that I will be camping on an island off the coast of California and don't believe I will have access to the Internet...

LOVE!

Sorry I have been totally missing in action! It has been a crazy week. Last Friday I headed up to Huntington Beach to meet the boy at the US Open. We spent the weekend up there because he had to be up there for work. It was crazy crowded and I was happy to be home Sunday night :-)

Monday morning I woke up early and picked my grandma up and headed up to Calabasas for a few days with my Aunt. From the second I stepped foot in her house we were on the go - I had so much fun! We spent the week enjoying yummy dinners out, fabulous vino, shuttling the kiddos around to every appointment/practice under the sun, lunching, shopping (of course!) and much more! I scored some uber fabulous finds at the mall - My favorite of them all is this skirt from J Crew... seriously so excited to strut my stuff in this shiny little number... I am already drooling over all of the fun ways I can wear it!

Target just announced their latest collaboration set to hit stores December 19... William Rast! The two men behind this fabulous rocker chic brand is the one and only Justin Timberlake and Trace Ayala. Target is staying mum on all of the juicy deets like the actual pieces or price range but considering it is Target we can pretty much bet that it will be within most budgets - oh and boys too will get to reap the benefits of this frugal steal! Until they release their look book of what we have to come... feast your eyes on this goodness from their Spring 2010 collection...

A Little Bit Longer...

My favorite way to start off my day is to watch the Today Show. This morning on their beauty/style segment they featured designer slips from Farr West. Their Style Editor had the greatest idea with these pretty little numbers - if you have a tunic that is too short add one of these fancy slips underneath and voila problem solved - instant length! My problem has always been with wearing a slip under a short dress or tunic... when it inched out the bottom I felt like a grandma... well these have pretty lace or chiffon detailing at the bottom that make you want them to poke out! Genius!

Best part is they are completely reasonably priced! Ranging between $38-$80!

There is something about leaving the hair salon with fresh color and cut - it is like you are transformed into a whole new person and are ready to conquer the world. Well today I got my much needed roots back to blonde and I feel 100% better about life... even if the sun still hasn't come out to play :-)

While I was bronzing in the desert sun - San Diego was invaded by geeks and beauties. This past weekend the annual Comic Con was held in the Gaslamp Quarter in downtown San Diego. Although I have never attended this four day festival... I have been on the streets of downtown while it is going on and boy are the attendees a sight to see... a very eclectic bunch to say the least :-)

The stinkin sun is never going to show it's face in southern California! Before we know it is going to be fall! Well we found a simple fix for our problem - we are heading to the desert... Palm Desert that is :-) I will be laying pool side sipping on fruity cocktails and soaking up all of the vitamin D one girl can take!

I was first introduced to Anna Beck's lovely jewelry about four years ago - and instantly fell in love! I was treating myself to her beauties way too often... I just couldn't resist... I seriously probably have about eight of her pieces! Three years later not much has changed - I am still totally smitten with her jewelry!

I am not a fan of the huge gaudy statement pieces that you find in most shops - I mean I think they are lovely, but just not on me. I am much more of a simple, understated type of girl - which is EXACTLY what Anna Beck's jewelry is... I love the way she mixes silver and gold - perfection!

All of her jewelry is handmade using ancient Balinese techniques that date back hundreds of years - how cool is that??

My favorite time of year officially begins today - Del Mar Race season - Yeeeooowww! I don't partake in too many bets... clearly I don't know much about horse betting... I make my calculated picks by the names of the horses :-) However, there is nothing more fun than getting dressed up in your sassy summer dresses and heading over to the track for cocktails in the sun... oh and some of the best people watching of the summer!

One of my favorite trends right now is the mixing of patterns and fabrics such as florals and stripes. I came across this photo of Blair Waldorf today - the article was reporting that our beloved label-snob, queen bee Blair was sporting a - gasp - $25 skirt! However, what caught my eye were the two unexpected floral prints - Love this look!

Good-bye Friends!

Today was a sad day... I drove my dear friend Camille and her dog to the airport. She was jumping on a plane to her new/old life on the east coast. Cams and her husband made the difficult decision to move back to PA where she is originally from. She moved out west for college ten years ago... can you believe we have been out of high school for ten years (yep-I have my high school reunion this fall!) - and out of college for six?? Crazy! We have another couple that we are good friends with that are also moving the first week in August - It is one of Dylan's good friends from college. He and his wife also made the tough decision to move back to Maui... where they are both from (they too came to California for school). It got me thinking - where is the time going?? Seriously - it is like we are officially growing up - everyone is slowly migrating back to their home towns to be closer to their families and begin the next chapter in their lives. Both of the couples that are leaving are in different circles of our friends; however, they remind me of each other - probably the most genuine people that I have ever met and I feel so fortunate that they came into my life and I am so happy to call them life-long friends!

How Have I Been Missing Out??

One of the things I truly love about visiting my favorite blogs is being introduced to new designers. I was scanning Elle today and ran into an interview with designer, Heidi Merrick. She is not a new designer by any means - unfortunately she is just new to me. Her first collection was a few years ago and I am trying to figure out how I have not come across her beautiful pieces sooner??

She is daughter to legendary surf board shaper, Al Merrick. Al was actually one of the award recipients at the Waterman's Ball I attended last week! She has a way to make her clothes look effortlessly, fabulous - I am in love! I cant believe I have been missing out the past few years!

"I believe what you wear on the outside affects who you are on the inside. It is so much easier to be kind when you feel beautiful. You know this is true." - well said sista!

What's Old Is New Again...

Here I am the night of the spill... unfortunately I don't have an image of the whole dress - but you get the idea of the original color :-)
Dye, salt and steaming water is all I needed...

And the final product - pic doesn't do the purple color justice...

So a few years ago - on an infamous girls weekend to NYC I somehow ruined one of my favorite dresses (the perfect red Twelfth Street by Cynthia Vincent dress!)... okay - so I guess it wasn't 'somehow' - more like I spilt a cocktail on it... and being as it was 100% silk it was quickly ruined... It was the first time I had worn it so I did everything to try and revive it when I got home... took it to the dry-cleaners multiple times with no avail. I threw it in the back of the closet... thinking one day I will attempt to dye it. Well - that 'one day' happened to be today! I went to Michael's and picked out a fabric dye - trust me this was a difficult choice - I really wanted a fun, vibrant color that equalled the pizazz of the red; however, I figured that I should probably go with a darker shade to better mask the dark stain. Well... after an hour of stirring my beloved dress in the sink I think this dress may have a couple more wears in it!

The downfalls I have to report is that for some reason the thread didn't dye - it is still red... but to tell you the truth I don't really mind... sort of like the look of the contrast. Also it didn't completely mask the stain but it is definitely way less noticeable - and definitely wearable.

The Hills is finally coming to an end tonight... it's about time! Not saying that I ever stopped tuning in - of course I did... but am happy to finally say good riddance! MTV, the network that has produced many of my oh so guilty pleasures is finally putting a stop to the The Hills. If you ask me it has been pretty painful to watch since LC left... but it was like a train wreck that I couldn't take my eyes off of. Now I can focus my time on more important shows like the return of Jersey Shore :-)

Weekend Fun!

We had a whirlwind of a weekend! We spent Friday night at the Ritz in Dana Point for the Waterman's Ball. It was a lovely evening... I love getting all fancied up! On Saturday we spent the day searching high and low for the perfect 90's gear - yep that's right we attended a 90's themed party... sort of made me feel old... considering it is typically 80's inspired parties... but it ended up being a ton of fun. We went as Zack and Kelly from Saved by the Bell! I may be biased but I am thinking we had the best getup's :-) We got a hotel downtown for Saturday night since the party was down there. On Sunday we were moving slow from two late nights - but we eventually made it over to Fiesta Island for the Over the Line tournament. My brother and his friends played in the tourney for the second year in a row. They won 4 out of 5 games - pretty freaking good! They will advance to next weekend! So that was my weekend wrap up - but it isn't over yet - we have a going away party tonight for two of our good friends that are moving back to Hawaii.

Well - it sounds a little fancier than it really is... but tonight the boy and I are going to the Waterman's Ball in Dana Point, held at the Ritz. It is the second year we are attending... so I know a little more of what to expect... it is the who's who of the surf industry. I am looking forward to a night away and an excuse to wear a new dress. I bought the most perfect Trina Turk dress the other day at Nordstroms and am oh so excited to show it off!
